I have set myself the goal of putting an international big band together every summer. The objective is to bring together young, talented musicians from different countries and backgrounds so they can expand their international networks as well as their experience. In addition to this, it is a great opportunity for music lovers to get to know upcoming talent.
Struggling against the odds in this time of financial crisis, the project took its first steps in 2011 at the Kunstbunker Music and Arts Festival in Croatia. The band, that brought together musicians from nine countries, played as the main act on the last evening of this three-day festival. In 2012, the project took place in Holland, where it took the form of an exchange project between two big bands: the Rob Spelberg Jazz Orchestra from Graz, Austria, and the Stageband from Groningen, the Netherlands. The short tour was completed with a dazzling concert at the well-known Noorderzon Festival in Groningen.
Plans for the 2013 edition are in the making.
